On an automation line, a tooling base plate plays the role of "reference platform" — it doesn't participate in the final product's function, but the accuracy of every inspection or assembly step downstream is built on the plane and locating holes it provides. This means any error in the plate isn't isolated — it gets amplified with every repeated positioning cycle: even a 0.01mm flatness deviation, multiplied across thousands of workpiece placements, can push defect rates far higher than expected. That's why a structurally simple plate often carries stricter accuracy requirements than it appears to need.
