When multiple components are stacked on the same shaft, even if every part is within tolerance, cumulative error can push the final axial clearance outside the design range — causing anything from running noise to premature bearing failure. A spacer bushing absorbs that cumulative error with a sleeve of precisely controlled length. Parallelism and perpendicularity of both end faces are the critical specs — if the faces aren't flat, the spacer introduces new error rather than removing it.
